Printing
This document has been set up so you can print the whole list or pick and choose what you require. A good idea is to print off the locations you plan to visit. Not only will you have a full inventory of what's there, you will also be able to mark off sightings in the tick box and make a note of any changes. If you wish to print the whole document and you have the 'complete' categories, expect to use a lot of paper and ink. This currently runs to over 300 sides of A4. Even so this still works out less than £10 for a very large coverage of the preservation/private railway scene.
You will need to make a few adjustments to print successfully. If you decide to print the whole document you will need to go in to your printer properties and use the 'scale to page A4' option. If you use a print program such as Fineprint this will be automatic. You may get an error message "the margins of area 1 etc..." please ignore this and continue. You may find a few digits get chopped in the 'other number' column. This affects very few records, only those that have had many previous identities. I cannot make this field smaller as it will affect the records held in my database. This does not apply when viewing the document on your computer.
I have never personally printed the whole document as I use my database for most things. However, I always print locations I'm visiting as a useful guide and tool for marking any changes I note.
The easiest way to do this is to copy/paste the required locations on to a new blank document. Before you do this, the new document needs to be set up in relation to the master document. Go in to page setup and make the follwing adjustments......
Margins - Top 0.3cm, Bottom 0.88cm, Left 1.32cm, Right 1.31cm.
Paper - Width 23.54cm, Heigth 33cm.
Once you have done this and pasted what you require, use the 'scale to page A4' option as explained above, to print off your list. A good idea is to leave the adjusted document on your desktop to save having to change all the margins again. Simply copy/paste over this at a later date.
I have tried this on a few printers and if you follow the instructions above you should have no problems.
