Other Issues
I would like to use this page to detail a few of your queries and any problems that may occur.
Firstly, a few of you have mentioned that it takes ages scrolling through the document to look for something in particular. There is a search facility. Click the 'edit' tab on the top left and select 'find' (binoculars) from the drop down menu. Alternatively you can use 'Ctrl+F'. You can use the different options to find what you are looking for. Please make yourself familiar with the document as this will help you identify how I display the data. Try to make the search on something significant, number 1 will take forever. Remember to start the search from the top of the first page and keep clicking through 'find next' until you find your query. Something like a County or Location will be easily found, other, smaller search criteria, may take longer. If you currently have the document remember to check the News & Updates page to keep track of movements etc.
You do not need to have Microsoft Word to read this document. A free Word Viewer can be downloaded from the Microsoft Website.
I send the lists out as a zipped file using Winzip. It's possible to send an individual category unzipped otherwise the file is too big. The complete list is over 20MB. The vast majority of you have had no problems. A few have had a 'Winrar' error. A couple of people have just ignored the warning and it works fine. A couple of solutions have been kindly supplied by Andrew Martin and David Sharpe........
"My advice for your contact with the Win Rar problem is: Windows is associating the RTF (rich text file) with the Win rar programme, rather than his word processor e.g. MS Word. I suggest he opens Windows Explorer goes to Tools -> Folder options -> file types tab. Then after Windows has populated the list of registered file types on his system, scroll down to the RTF file and change the programme that opens this file to his Word processing programme e.g. MS Word which will hopefully appear in the list of options when he clicks "change". If he needs more than this and someone else hasn't helped in the meantime, come back to me with the name of his word processing programme and I'll try to further assist...."
"At a guess he has downloaded a copy of Winrar at some point, and this has taken the default to open the zip file.
Possible solution..... Save the file to your hard drive(My Documents for example) and right click with the mouse on it. Select open with and the choose compressed zip folders (if you are using XP). Vista may be slightly different."
These are the only items that need to be addressed at present. If you have any other difficulty relevant to the document and feel it should be included in this page please let me know.
