Future Plans
Where do I go from here? My main priority for now is to try and compile a complete list of every rail vehicle in preservation, private and industrial use. Will we ever achieve this with a combined effort? The answer is probably no but we can have a damn good crack at it to make this the most comprehensive listing freely available anywhere.
As always there are more things to do than free time allows. My next concern is to contact every heritage site in the country. This will involve an email detailing the project, a link to the website and a request to forward the email to anyone involved on the line, volunteers etc. I will also attach a current list of what I believe is on their site, which hopefully they may assist with any changes, corrections. This will take some time to work through and in the case of several larger concerns, making sure the email reaches the right people, rather than being binned in an admin office. I am very fortunate to have several contacts at present who have been extremely helpful. The listings for the GCR, NVR, MHR, CVR(Colne), Chinnor, are very accurate indeed.
Also in the future I would like to set up a page for items for sale. This will be free of charge. I can also highlight this in the notes field on the document as well as reporting new/sold items in the news/updates page. You can either display your contact details on the website or keep them with me to forward to interested parties. A photo to link to would also be a good idea.
Finally a few of you have already enquired about an on line search facility. This sounds like a good idea but will depend on a few things. My current web package is affordable but limited to what I can do. As the lists are free, which I intend to keep that way, any upgrades to facilitate uploading my database costs considerably more than I'm currently paying. Therefore I've set a target of 500 people taking part in the project before I seriously consider this option viable and worth the extra cost to myself.
If you you have any other thoughts or suggestions which may improve the document or circulation please let me know.
