Welcome to Preserved Railway Stock List. This is an attempt to locate and identify all the Locomotives and Rolling Stock still extant in the UK at Preservation, Private and Industrial sites throughout the country. This is of course a mammoth task, as the very nature of the preservation scene makes this difficult to keep an up to date survey of what is really out there, as no official records exist. There will no doubt be errors and omissions but it is a considerable start. I currently have 21,520 entries.
After many years of compiling my own records I've decided to make available, free of charge, a Microsoft Word Document converted from my database. A single selection will be posted to your email address as a zipped file and resent every three months, or by joining the Yahoo group you will have free access to all files. The idea is to create a community of enthusiasts whether you're a volunteer at a heritage site or an out and out number cruncher. All I ask on your part is to report any changes or errors, however small, so I can amend the list, ready for the next update. I plan to send these out during the first week of March, June, September & December. If enough people participate we should be able to maintain as accurate a survey as possible for everyone's benefit.
The document will be displayed in County order followed by Location . There will also be an address, grid reference where known. All items of stock will appear under the same location and are in the following categories
Locomotives Mainline Steam, Diesel & Electric, Industrial, Private Owner, Narrow Gauge & Miniature
Powered Stock DMU's, DEMU's & EMU's, Tube Stock, Trams & Light Rail, CLiff Railways & other Miscellaneous Stock, includes Narrow Gauge
Passenger & Non Passenger Coaching Stock Pre Grouping, Pre National & British Rail, Foreign Stock based in the UK, includes Narrow Gauge
Plant Cranes, Track Machines, Small Plant & Trollies, Miscellaneous Plant, includes Narrow Gauge
Wagons Private Owner, Pre Grouping, Pre National, British Rail & a section for undefined stock awaiting confirmation of origin, includes Narrow Gauge.
Each record will include the following fields

If you would like to take part in this survey please select one of the options below.
OPTION 1 - Quarterly Email
The whole document is large and possibly quite daunting to those who have certain interests rather than the overall scene. What I can do is filter out the following selections for email circulation. You can only choose one of these.
Locomotives (Category 1-4)
Locomotives & Powered Stock (Category 1-5)
Locomotives, Powered Stock & Coaching Stock (Category 1-7)
Complete List, including Plant & Wagons (Category 1-9)
The above can be inclusive of narrow gauge or excluded. Please make it clear what you require. The document is easy to edit to fine tune to your own needs.
All following quarterly updates will only include your initial selection unless you contact me to change this.
Please email me on stevescb1966@live.co.uk with your name, email address & requirement, then I will send out your document.
OPTION 2 - Yahoo Group
This will enable you take part in discussions and offer better flexibility on your category selection as all files will be available to download. You can also suggest other selections not mentioned above, which can be added in addition to the regular quarterly updates. Also any changes to the lists will be reported here only. This will include all additions, movements, deletions & other relevant information.
